The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries proposed the season dates for the 2007 Turkey Hunting Season to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission at the commission's Aug. 3 meeting.

The recommended statewide opening date is March 24.  The season in Area A would extend to April 22, Area B to April 15, and Area C to April 8.  The daily bag limit is one gobbler, and the season limit is two gobblers.

Private land youth hunts will take place on March 17 and 18.  Each youth must be accompanied by an adult older than 18.  Youths under 16-years-old may participate and must possess a hunter safety certificate or proof of completing a hunter safety course unless the adult supervisor already has one of these requirements.

The recommendation also includes:

· Moving open portions of Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Morehouse and Union parishes to Area A.

· Moving Washington and St. Tammany parishes to Area B.

· Adding a special season for wheelchair-confined hunters to Jackson Bienville WMA from April 14-20.  Hunters must possess a Physically Challenged Hunter Permit with wheelchair classification.

· Opening the closed portion of southwestern Grant and north central Rapides parishes.

· Extending the Area C season from nine to 16 days.

· Opening all of Concordia Parish.

· Lengthening seasons from nine to 16 days on Big Lake, Red River, Three Rivers and Sicily Island Wildlife Management Areas.

· Adding a youth hunt to Sicily Island WMA and expanded the Fort Polk WMA youth hunt to also include the Calcasieu Ranger District of Kisatchie National Forest.

· Opening a larger portion of Catahoula, Caldwell and Franklin parishes.
