The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) will hold public meetings in Cañon City and Buena Vista to hear input on deer and elk management in the Upper Arkansas River Valley.

The Cañon City meeting is September 19 at 7 p.m. at the BLM office at 3170 E. Main Street. The Buena Vista meeting is September 20 at 7 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Electric Association Building at 29780 U.S. Hwy 24 north.

The meetings are to gather public input for management plans for the deer and elk herds in Units 48, 481, 49, 56, 561, 57 and 58. These units include elk herds on portions of the Buffalo Peaks and Collegiate Ranges, and the Cottonwood Creek area deer herd.

“Specifically we want input on herd size and male female ratios for a five-year management plan,” said, Jack Vayhinger a terrestrial biologist for the DOW.
