I have seen mixed stories on what exactly happened, but the first report I heard said that the group was walking single-file down the trail, the boy was the youngest in the group, and he was trailing along at the end of the line. If you understand how mountain lions hunt, this was a virtual invitation.Not that I'm blaming the adults in the group, because most people do not know this stuff. Nonetheless, if you're in a group that includes children, and walking in mountain lion country, you should pick out the two tallest people in the group and one should be at the front of the line and the other should be at the end of the line.
