The 30.06 is undoutably the most versatile rifle on the market. It can handle any game in North American and has the best selection of ammo. A beautiful calibre for the relaoder too. I can't think of a bad thing to say about the 30.06

I'll leave disussions on the 6.5's to those more knowledgeable of the calibre.

Asking that question is like opening pandora's box. What are you looking to hunt, at what ranges, etc.?

A good "all-around low price rifle" would be a H&R Handi-Rifle in 30-06 caliber outfitted with a variable power scope. Which can be purchased new and fitted with a scope for about $250.

I'm hunting Whitetail Deer mostly and some wild pigs.
I thought about getting the 6.55x55 or a .308 but I already have a .243 and a .30-06 Semi-Auto
