Varmint Rifles

OK, it's shopping time again (at least I think so - have to check with my wife first ).

Anyway, by the subjet line of this post, I'm sure that y'all have figured out that I'm looking for a varmint gun. Just a few too many prairie rats in this world for my taste.

At this point I'm looking at the Savage Model 12-BVSS, Remington 700, Weatherby Super Varmint Master (only if a winning lottery ticket blows my way) and Ruger No. 1 - all in .22-250.

Right now, I would have to say that the Savage is in the lead, but I'd like to hear about it if any of you have had any experience with them. Mainly, I'm concerned about the Accu-trigger and its reliability. Most everything I've read to this point has been all positive. Just thought I'd go for some feedback from y'all (y'all? - see what marrying a southerner has done to me).

Looking to put a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20 X44 AO on it (will take opinions on that too; although, I already own one in 3.3-10 x 44 AO and love it).

Many folks claim that Savage makes junk because of the lower price tag. Look a little closer and you'll see that what's missing is the fancy "buy me" stuff. I haven't found a Savage yet that hasn't impressed me with the accuracy they achieve. The new trigger setup is supposed to be awesome. Savage makes an accurate firearm.

have you looked at the new Ruger 204 rifle I just bought a Marlin 17HMR bolt action with laminated stock and have aNikon 3x9-40 Pro Staff scope mgt. I have it zero in at 150 yards. One thing

Hunting Tip: Archery Target For Around 10 Cents

What do you do with those empty nylon feed bags or dog & cat food bags? Can you say recycle? I use them for target practice for the youngsters. Take your empty shopping bags, stuff them into an empty nylon feed bag. You can also use old clothing or rags, (but put them in the bottom so it doesnt get top heavy). When your bag is full, fold the top over, punch some holes into the top and zip tie the top shut. Paint, draw, paste, or have the kids decorate their new target. Set it out 10 or 20...
