Shipping Elk Antlers

I will be hunting elk for the first time this fall in Colorado. A friend of mine has lined up the trip and we will be flying out there. However, I need suggests how to get elk antlers home. Any suggestions on the best way to ship them? Our airline does allow transportation of antlers as checked baggage but I am worried about them getting crushed by the other luggage. I also understandshipping using Fed Ex or DHL would be expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Shipping Elk Antlers

Hey Upstate,
Keep in mind that elk hunting is not simple, it is a lot of hard work and with some good luck, 1 in 5 hunters in Colorado are successful. If you are fortunate enough to harvest a bull, you can split the skull plate between the antlers and they will be much more compact. You can ship them very easily by UPS that way. Any taxidermist will be able to mount them without any hint that the skull plate was split.
Good luck on your hunt.
