So It's getting late but I still have to make enough posts to get this "Newbie" tag off my screen name here ! Josh had never killed a moose or caribou so we jumped in the truck and left Montana for Alaska. We stopped at Tok, AK. first place to get over the counter non-resident tags. We continued to Fairbanks, stopped at fish and game and asked a few questions and headed up the Steese Hwy. towards Circle,AK. The following URL(caribou hunt) will take you on a photo tour of the caribou hunt with a map at the end. He took the Moose on Peters Creek. Total spent was under 1500.00 for gas, food and tags for two guys. Every where we went the camping was free..Neither of us had ever been in the area before this hunt. I follow alot of different hunting forums online and there always seems to be people making posts reguarding how they wish they could hunt Alaska. It don't have to cost you a mint to go. Take note in the photos of the clothing worn while we were hunting, Jeans sweatshirts, rubber boots in short nothing special. I see too many guys waste a ton of money on gear for a one time hunt.If you don't need a guide to hunt where you live now,With a little research and some outdoor related smarts you will do fine anywhere you go..............
If you have interest in the areas we hunted and have a question, just ask i'll help if I can.
