At least 8 different conservation groups are going to be working together to launch the Michigan Pheasant restoration Initiative. This is an effort aimed at providing better habitat for nesting and cover for pheasants in three separate areas of Michigan's lower peninsula. The goal is to eventually have 2 million acres of land with grasses and crops specifically planted with pheasants in mind.
When I was a kid, there were pheasants everywhere in Michigan. Now there are very few pockets of them, and most pheasant hunting is done on put-and-take preserves.
