Call me cautious but, I carry a S&W .38 AirLite and depending on the loacation a Colt Officer .45ACP for personal protection. I really only have confidence in revolvers, having had jams at bad times with my automatic as well as military automatics. I paddle kayaks and canoes in the back country and remote areas of Florida.
I am looking into a back country revolver and am getting confused. I read about the S&W 357PD which is a .41MAG. I was introduced to the Ruger Alaskan. This gun is very interesting but, now I have a choice of a .454.Casull-45ACP or a .480 Ruger. Both of these guns are designed for backcountry protection.
Typically I will carry the gun in a case in a Pelican case under my canoe seat. I am visiting areas with big game, bears (Grizzly, Polar, etc), mountain lions, or an occational looter under 300 pounds.
I am looking for suggestions on cabiber?
Thanks
