I have one more weekend to try to get my son on his first mule deer!  Between soccer and baseball, we have only been able to go in the field three times so far.  The first was an evening hunt on the second day of the season.  The wind was blowing 20+ kts with gusts up 35 so we didn't stand much of a chance.  The second time out was a morning hunt.  The winds were a little more tolerable but still more than promising.  We ended up seeing a several deer but they just didn't come into his comfortable range.  And then we went out again this past Saturday morning and were greeted with Santa Ana winds!  The only deer we would have seen would have been flying by in a gust!  As we were walking in to our spot Saturday morning he asked "Dad, how does the wind know when WE are going hunting?"  HA HA

So, we have this weekend to give it one more try!  The weather is predicted to be rainy so hopefully we will have at least one opportunity at a shot.
