Has anyone seen the new rifle from Mossberg? It is called a 4x4. In their new annual catalogue there is a review on a prototype, and by the review this sounds like an interesting gun for its price/value performance. It sure looks like they want to target Savage head on. Very similar features as the 111FXCP3 combo package. The differences that I see are: example, 30-06
Mossberg 4x4/ Savage 111
24" barrel/ 22" barrel
2 pos. safety/ 3 pos. safety
plastic side by side feed mag./ steel in-line feed mag.
vented forearm/ no
42" oal/ 42.5" oal
Available in syn, walnut, lam, stocks/ syn, walnut only
Gun only, comes with scope mounts/ no
I am in my second year of hunting and until now have borrowed my friend's and Uncle's guns, both being Savage 111's. I like what the Savage has to offer, however I think if this new Mossberg rifle shots as well as it looks, I will side towards the 4x4. The grey laminate/blue barrel has got my attention, especially if it is in the 500 dollar range. I do believe that Mossberg has put a lot of time into the look of the wood stock of this new rifle. What do you guy's think?
