I have been a New Jersey resident all my life. I have had my hunting license since 1989. Never have I gotten a deer. In August of this year (2004) My fiance and myself and a few other guys went to New Sweden, Maine. For me it was my first big game hunt. We went for black bear. We went with a guide service, Auntie's Cabin. I did everything I could to keep my confidence up. The first day of the hunt was August 30, 2004, Monday. I went out to my tree stand around 3pm and sat for a while when all of a sudden here he came! What an adrenalin rush! Then he turned around and walked out. My heart sank. 5 minutes later he came back in! it was 7pm. I took my shot, Yes, one shot through both lungs, and the slug stopped just under the hide on the other side. Kept the slug! (Shot him with a 20 guage Remington 870 express Magnum, used Brenneke Rottweil 2 3/4 Mag load slug.) He ran about 40 feet and dropped! He was 373 lbs! Not bad for my first big game hunt on the first night no less. As far as I know I still have the biggest bear in that town for the 2004 season. Im hoping there is a bear hunt next year to go to. That was the best hunting experience that I have ever had. Thank you Leonard and Jim. that is one experience I will never forget as long as I live.
here is my web page where you can get the link to the guide service that we used and see more pictures on his website. yes I am a female!
