My family has taken some good ones in the past but I have not been back for over 20 years. They all tell me the herd is way down over what it was and only take an 8 point or better every 4 or 5 years. They all blame it on the wolves.
Someday I'll get back and check it out when I go visit my mom and see for myself. She just moved back last year so I never had a reason before.
I'm not sure are many wolves where you are talking about, but if there are the deer will definitely suffer and they are also holding down the moose population up there!

Here's an article on it but it's interesting that the DNR tries to downplay the huge number of deer that the wolves kill by saying it's mimimal compared to other causes of death.
That data is about as much BS as all the rest of the data the DNR puts out! They don't have any friggin idea how many deer or anything else are out there or how many are taken each year. The deer harvest count during deer season is baloney and the only true way to know what's taken as far as I'm concerned is if they have mandatory reporting like Wisconsin.
