Easy to draw, Impossible to find the rams. Every year out of all those tags maybe one person tags a ram and it is usually the non-resident or the person who hires the outfitter. Check around, but I read an article in the Idaho Falls newspaper a couple years back, maybe more, where a local taxidermist here and his son both drew that tag and they both killed their rams by floating the river and doing numerous hikes up on side to glass across the river and then walking back down and floating back across, hiking back up and then putting on a stalk. I think those guys worked for em and I don't even know if they killed big rams. Also check some back issues of Eastmans like from 3-5 years ago. There was a guy who got that hunt and hunted and hunted and finally bumped into some guys, maybe the outfitter, who told him where they were. I talked to the biologist in Salmon about that hunt a few years ago when I saw how easy it was to draw and he told me to put in for any other hunt and he would help me but if I put in for that one, to not even call him. I didn't draw 27-1 this year. I have put in for it twice and not drawn. I put in for 26L the last couple of years. You are lucky. I am a bit jealous. I would love that 26L tag. Maybe next year. That is a great area. I have seen rams in 27-1 in two areas, but that was in March. I am sure they are not in those areas in Sept. and Oct. I may try for that tag again next year. Who knows. You will have a blast in your hunt and you will see sheep, no question. Hey, if you remember, let me know how it went and what you got! I may be putting in for that tag next year. I'll have to see.

IFG has increased the number of permits in hopes that at least some more rams will be taken. They are counting a lot of rams on their (winter) survey, but they don't know where in the incredible vastness of the unit the sheep hang out the rest of the year. Unit 27-1 is approx 350 sq miles and is the nastiest terrain I know of. Gotta call it fun - or you'll be scared outa your ...
