I have noticed, that a lot of you, are not NRA members. We have the membership, to stop the powerful, anti-gun lobbyists, would love you to join.
I bet most folks on this forum ARE NRA members, I know I am. In fact I bet a majority of folks that hunt and/or shoot are NRA members. Many (possibly even most) shooting ranges make it a requirement that you must be be an NRA member to even join.
Why would you think that most are not members?
I'm not an NRA member, and I don't really care to be. Nothing against them, but I heard something that scared. A marine buddy of mine came back from bootcamp and told us that he had to sign this form asking him a bunch of questions. One of the ?'s was would he be willing to shoot an American who did not give up his firearms. Now I'm guessing that if we get some ass hat liberal president, like Clinton again who wants to de-gun the country, they'll request all the names of NRA members and go for their guns first.
I just wish I could find out more about this somewhere. It's kinda creepy to think that legal gun owners are the enemy for some many people.
Interesting. Was the question aimed at shooting American citizens, or an American soldier/Marine who refused to put the gun down?
It's a valid question, in the right context. It's easy to say you'd be willing to kill the enemy. But some people have issues if the enemy is an American.
Consider the My Lai massacre during Vietnam. If you were to see a fellow American go nuts and start shooting women and children, what would you be prepared to do to stop him?
But you don't even have to go that far -- you might be on a security detail and be faced with an armed intruder.
I'm a proud NRA member, and personally I think the risks to freedom associated with not belonging are greater than the possibility of a corrupt president using membership rolls to disarm society. He'd have to go a lot farther than NRA rolls to accomplish that, and such a scenario could only play out if the NRA has failed.
Your voice protects your rights, and if you fail to speak out you forfeit your right to complain when your rights are gone.
Years ago I thought the NRA was too radical in its approach to gun control laws. The Governor of MD taught me I was wrong. He wanted to ban Saturday night specials saying they were the weapon of choice for criminals. He said that this was as far as the ban would go.
No sooner than the ink was dry on that legislation he was stating that you needed to ban semi-automatic as these were now the weapon of choice by criminals.
I learned you cannot give an inch or we'll lose our right to bear arms.
And yes, I am a member of the NRA.
"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!"
I'm not sure of the context, but it sounded to me like ,"if an American citizen didn't give up his personal weapons" But this was also in the days of dirty Bill Clinton. Man I hate libs. Anyway, I'll look into membership a little closer. I definitely want to be able to take my son shooting if not hunting too. I mean we are already losing some prime 4x4 trails out here in Cali because of all the libs and the F'ing Sierra Club.
I'm a member and always will be. My right to self-defence and sport is too valuable to lose. We need to protect what's left of those from the groups that disagree. I for one, don't know of a better way.
Unfortunately, I know many people that agree with me, but won't part with a few bucks to have a voice. They're pro NRA mind you, just don't join.
I think they don't believe what happened in Canada, Austraila, and the UK can happen here. Scares me.
I don't like the term weapon .I look at my guns more as hunting tools..And will substitute ammunition with rounds.
I suppose anybody can decide what "word" to call thier guns.
When I was in the military (Air Force) we weren't suppose to use the word "gun". This poem was often quoted:
This is my weapon. (hold up M16)
This is my gun. (grab groin)
This is for fighting.
This is for fun.
You get the picture. We were also told that to call it a "rifle", or a "piece" was acceptable too. So the terms kind of stick with you.
Many people use the terms interchangably with no problems. But I could hardly call my pistols, pieces, handguns, or what ever word you want "hunting tools". They are for personal protection, be it a rabid coyote or a so called two legged wolf.
Almost thirty years ago when I was still dating my wife we got caught in a situation that opened my eyes. Out in the sticks alone I felt so helpless, I swore that it would never happen again. I went out and bought a .357 the next week, and haven't looked back. If anybody ever threatens my family or me again, I ( and my wife) plan on having a chance to protect ourselves. My wife is one great shooter with her .38 revolver.
Ammunition, rounds, bullets, cartridges,shells...............whatever.
Seems to me we have to worry too much about being politically correct in todays world about every word we use.
Call 'em what you want.
Oxford dictionary weapon 1) a thing used as a means of inflicting bodily harm
2) the means of getting the better of someone in a conflict.
