What is your strategy when it comes to hunting whitetails in the rain? I will hunt in a light rain. If the rain gets heavy or is heavy I won't go out at all. If I am out there and a heavy rain begins to fall I usually keep a close eye on the forecast. If I know it is going to let up I will stay on the stand. I know that is one of the best times to be on your stand, right after a heavy rain or a big storm. Anyone have any different strategies?
Bout same hear 2,lite rain i'll sit N stand an wait out...Hard rain,Dpend'n how short it is,if it look's like it's gonna B around for awhile i'll go back to truck an sit it out...rite after any kind of rain i like to B out there...koolz thing's off a bit,if it ant in mid afternoon, sometime's down hear it's HOT'r after rain than it was B4....I think if it's a continuos Hard rain (wind to) U mite as well go on home an watch da BullDawg's whip da Gator'z....But a off n on lite rain i think they'll still git up an move, then U can bring that Big one home an find out that da BullDawg's Beat da Gator'z...
Since it rains just about everyday here in FL I find myself hutning in the rain quite a bit. I try to hold tight in my treestand and pay extra attention when the rain slacks up or quits. The deer seem to still move as long as its not a downpour. I have one of those camo umbreallas for my climber so it keeps most of the rain out.
like you said some of the best hutning is right when a storm lets up. The deer love to roam around while the ground is still moist.
Tracking is alot easier after a rain also so If nothings moving I like to scout out new areas because you can tell where the most recent tracks are.
depends on how far the truck is and how hard it rainin. But once it starts to thunder I'm done but watchin to see if I jump one on the way out of the woods.
When I'm hunting in portable treestands, I use my camo umbrella to shield me from the ran. If it picks up then I'll head to a box stand. There are box stands in most of the places I hunt. I can climb in one of those stands and fall asleep to the sound of the rain hitting the roof. Always good to have a backup plan.
I actually like it right before a good storm. A nice misty rain is a pleasant way to sit in the woods, and I see many deer. Once it gets too hard, it's not worth it to me.
I will hunt in any weather except LIGHTNING.
Agree with all here, good time right before and as soon as it quits raining. I will also shift to a box stand and usually doze off during heavy rain so I can't say if deer move during heavy rain.
it rained every single day I hunted last year except for the last day.
Watch the birds, if they stay out during the rain, it'll rain all day. If they sit tight then it'll stop soon and as soon as the birds come back to life...so will the deer.
If them bulldawgs whip them Gators then I'll go home and spend time with the family cause the end is upon us !!
Interesting, never thought of watching the birds during the storm. I know you can tell weather is coming when the birds start going on a feeding frenzy, trying to beat the storm.......

I agree whole heartedly
Weather doesnt affect how or when I hunt, I just put my big boy pants on and go.LOL
I gut it out under any weather for as long as I can.
