I live in Southwest Michigan and spend nine months on Lake Michigan and surrounding lakes and three months in the field hunting. Hunting is primarily deer, duck and pheasant. Each year I take a trip for trophy saltwater gamefish. While Florida, Hawaii and Mexico have provided some memorable moments. I've hit a wall of sorts. While I have a passion for fishing, I'd like to forego my big fishing adventure and go Elk hunting. As with my fishing trips, I choose a species and then target a location that balances out experiencing the surroundings while targeting a potential trophy. From there I call several charter captains and interview them in the phone to get a feel for their personality, check out their equipment and accomodations. If we make a connection over the phone, I write a check , let them do what they do best in their environment and I tip them in the end trophy or not. I don't have a preference to location, however my partner is a bit overzealous and is looking to go only where the huge Elk roam. Someone once told him New Mexico is "THE" place to go for the big dogs. I prefer to balance surroundings, potential opportunities and then size to make a choice.
The appears to be the place to ask: So, given the above, where do we go?
Thank you ahead of time for your advice.
Be safe.
