Ouch.... I'd go nuts. But i guess that when our rifle season starts so if i was doing that I'd be in the same boat
Sept 7 mountain goat, Sept 11 Muzzleloader elk, Oct 1 WY antelope, Oct 26 NM elk, Nov 6 deer, Dec 1 antelope, Dec 1 elk. Oh and maybe some ducks, pheasants and geese to occupy the poor little hunting dog. I've gotten better and better at scouting these past couple of years and all the critters I see just keeps me fired up and spurs me into hiking further and further. It's great. I'd never survive summer without scouting.
Burned 9 points cause i'm tired of chasing those unreachable units in my lifetime. I spent hours, days, months pouring over maps, talking to DOW, Biologists, & even past successful hunters in this unit that I have met on this forum. A few nights my wife caught me downloading stuff off the internet at 2 in the morning, then cracked up when she found it was not porn, but hunting tips to read on my lunch hour. Exited?...yea I guess it doesn't take much.
I drew 1 of 4 archery buck tags & 1 of 5 muzzleloader bull tags for this unit(2009 allotment). Still waiting for the fall turkey results, and buying an OTC bear cap tag(hopefully). Exiting?...enough to go out and drop $1500 on a new bow rig. I figured since I had an archery tag I should have a bow!
Armed with waypoints of possible scouting sites loaded in my GPS I drove 4 hrs to my hunt unit. As I passed the sign to confirm I was in my unit a huge 6X6 bull crosses 20 yrds in front of me heading for a canyon I had marked as a possible. 4 miles down the road I camped and woke up to see 2 more bulls looking down a ridge 200yds above me. In the 6 hrs & of scouting I saw 6 bulls, 2 bucks, 7 turkeys(2 jakes), 2 color-phase bears, and found two 6 point elk sheds. All within 3 miles of my truck. Exitement?...It doesn't get any better than this. Heart pumping, heavy breathing, wide eyes, $hit eating grin when I think of my trip....hell my wife still thinks its porn!!!
You put the feeling down in words very well. For guys like many of us, there is no offseason, it's just application season, scouting season, and hunting season, and they all blend together
I have a friends wife that asks me every time that she sees me if I am done killing yet? And I usually tell her no, and as was said there is no off season anymore. It seams like every month of the year I have something to do with hunting. Weather it is applying, scouting, or the actuall hunt. It seams like it is one big circile and I love it.
augest 22 i m going for antelope, october fifth mulie hunt. cant wait seem like each day grows longer.
Wish it would get here so I would stop spending money on things "that I have to have that I may only use once"
Oh man aren't you talking. I'm at work on the computer looking at hunting stuff, buying hunting stuf and wonder where my money goes each month when the visa bill shows up in the mail. It's a vicious cycle that starts over each month
