I am thinking about going elk hunting in Colorado next year with a friend. The hunt would be in October or November, and I was wondering if Under Armor, a sweater, and fleece jacket and pants would be enough?
Hi there, You should prepare for snow and more snow. I went to Colorado last Oct - Nov. and we received 2 feet of snow the first day. It was cold and wet. It was a great hunt but you should always be properly prepared.
Not if you get caught in what Mofire did. Its really hard to say. Some years I've gotten suntan, others a snow storm. I would bring the fleece, but also bring along a heavy parka.
I would recommend dressing in several light layers, but do bring the fleece AND a warm parka. Don't forget the boots, a good pair with waterproofing on them.
The weather can vary widely, and a lot depends at what elevation you will be. The higher up, the greater the chances of running into snow, even in October. In November the chances of snow at even the lower elevations is very high, in fact November is one of our snowiest months in the mountains.
And as mofire stated, 2 feet of snow in one day is not unusual. Lots of stranded hunters in the mountains every year!
4 in 1 parka (gortex) its worth the money
Ya, I think I'll look into buying a 4-in-1 parka. Because I'm a bowhunter, I'll wear the fleece if I can, but if not, then I'll wear the parka. Thanks.
the 4 in 1 has the zip out lining, weather proof, well made........good choice.
I see them around for $129. - $179.00

Bow season starts in late August and lasts until late September. Are you sure you will be bowhunting Colorado in October?
No I'm not sure. The guy I talked to told me October-November, but I don't know if he was putting in for a rifle tag or what. I am going bowhunting if I draw a tag though (whenever the season is). I am putting in for Arizona, too. Do you know anything about their seasons?
Draw results were posted for Colorado sometime ago. If you haven't been notified by now, you didn't get one. There are however OTC tags for either sex or antlerless elk archery season.
I didn't put in for a tag this year, so I'm not worried. Does anyone know how many years preference points carry over for?
