can anyone tell me a good spot to go elk hunting with a rifle
anywhere in graysharbor or lewis counties
I would look at the Snoqualmie GMU. For me anywhere off of I-90 is a good bet. Depends on how far you want to travel.
when u say of of i -90 do u mean in the mountains
hunterwanabe,
Yep, I usually hunt between exit 47 (Denny Creek) to exit 62 (Stampede Pass).
Last year the north side of I-90 was more productive.
thank u for the help
hunterwanabe,
No sweat. I'm sure if you get out there and spend some time scouting you will see elk. The real trick is where will they be on opening day. I know that I will start scouting for elk in about a month. Then I will try to get out there about once a week until opening day. Two years ago I was hunting off of I-90 with about 20 other people in the same general area. I spotted about 8 elk on a hillside about 600 yards away. The only problem was the "hunters" between me and the elk. They didnt even see the elk. I could put on a good stalk because they were already spooked and continued up the mountain. I guess I should have got there earlier. Now I hike in and set up way before daylight.
Hey NW,
Try this sometime, it's the day before opener, everyone is out scouting and you're sound asleep in your camper/tent... then you wake up about two hours before sunset, grab a good dinner and as you're heading into your area you get lots of strange looks from all the hunters coming back from a day of scouting. Get about five or six miles back into the woods just where you want to be and set up a good observation point. Come morning just let all the all the hunters push the elk right into you. works like a charm. It sucks hauling that elk out on no sleep though. But honestly how many of us actually sleep the night before opener?
I am looking for a good area to try elk hunting with a muzzle loader. I was interested in going around Battleground or Washougal. Can anyone give me some info?
From what I have read, the I-90 area is good for elk. How about deer? Does anybody know where it get a good map of this area? I am looking for trails and campsites.
While riding in the loggin truck with dad a few years back I seen a bunch of muleys up on Stampede pass..........as for elk not one.?????
