Haven't heard to many people saying that they have seen any good bucks moving yet. I walked out my front door this morning at 10 o'clock and was suprised to see two bucks in the 160 class chasing a doe. Looks like the RUT might be here early or these guys are trying to hurry the does up. Anyone else seeing anything.
That's good to hear. My Dad hunted the archery season in Vermont up until this past weekend when it closed. he had not seen any sign of buck movement yet, and only saw a bunch of does. He went back yesterday to work on his stand for rifle season, and found 4 scrapes, with 2 of them having licking branches above that were broken up, and one of them was 12 yards from his stand. Go figure....
He's hoping they'll stick around till rifle opens up in 2 weeks.......
Good Luck to your Dad, I just went outside and it is noon now and we saw 2 more bucks running over the hill after a doe.
I sure wish I could walk out my front door and even have a chance at seeing a deer! The only thing I ever see as far as nature goes is the occasional coyote sneeking through a yard on the prowl for cats! Oh yeah, and I had a possum in the yard one night! HA HA
I think the rut is getting close here also. A couple of local guys have connected on some of the bigger bucks that aren't usually seen until they start their pursuit of happiness!
Good luck this season!!!
Not seeing much here in KS, but hoping bust loose soon. This is the time of year that they should really start moving. Next hunt day for me is Thursday so I hope to have bettter luck than I have been having. First couple of weeks in November are usually good in Kansas.
I looked out the front door this morning around 9:30 and saw a couple real nice bucks chasing a doe across the clover field.
Looks like they are trying to get something going. The two bucks were only in the 140-150 class so the big boys aren't moving real good yet. Looks like it will be another week or so.
i am going out Thursday morning so I am curious to see what is happening. I've got a trail cam out and will see what it holds. The weather is changing, getting darker earlier so the rut is in the air and I can't wait. i just love sitting in the tree as day breaks and seeing the bucks moving.
I'll let you all know what I see Thursday. you're right the week after should be better but I'm still excited about getting in the stand.
I want to see some of those trail camera pictures. I am pretty much done for the year so it is time to just live vicariously through all you guys. Come on boys... let's do this! It looks like more and more of you guys are seeing increase movement and deer activity so I would say that the rut is starting to pick up. Whitetail mania is starting to sweep the country I think.
I hope to have some good trail cam pictures tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed for me and I'll post any I get. I can't wait to get out tomorow which reminds me that I have to check the weather to see how the wind is going to be.
It is a new spot and I am anxious to see if I got any pictures. I've resisted just running up to check for fear of spooking a buck or contaminating the area with my scent.
A couple of us went out last night and we saw around 10 real nice bucks working the fence rows looking for does.
I think it's going to hit by the first of next week. We have 6 guys from LA. coming up this Saturday to start hunting so I hope they will be in the middle of the rut.
Just curious about the fence rows. Are the bucks cruising perpendicular to those, sort of looking for intersecting trails? I would assume they would want to hit as many trails as possibile to check for sign of a hot doe or something, correct?
