I was wondering if anybody would be able to give me some information on bear hunting in Oregon. I plan on coming out there this year for the fall hunt. I would greatly appreciate any information at all.
I might be able to help. Where else do you hunt silent scope? Care to help me find a whitetail?
Well I hunt here in ND on about 150 acres that cover a river bottom. It would be easy for me to help you find a whitetail all you need is the tag.
I forgot to ask if you are more interested in bow hunting or gun??
Silent scope. I hunt with both rifle and bow. Whatever gives me the best chance at getting a wall hanger. I've never hunted whitetail so I wouldn't have a clue which to use. Out here, a hunter has a better chance of taking a B & C bull elk with a bow. Most everything else I usually use a rifle. So, when do you plan on coming out here to Oregon? I could definately point you in the right direction for a bear. I hunt public land. I usually hunt hard while the berries are ripe. Clearcuts with berries are a good bet at the first portion of the season. Let me know when you plan on coming out and we'll set something up. I live in Myrtle Creek. I usually hunt just west of Glendale.
You're best bet of getting a wall hanger here would be with a rifle because of long shots. I shot my 04 white-tail at a 150 yrds and my sister shot her's at 300 yrds. So you may have to take a long shot. I know the way the deer move around here and I scout almost everyday of the summer to brush up on some things. The bow season here starts in Sept. and goes till Jan. and the rifle season opens in Nov. So if you want to hunt for white-tail when its kinda warm i suggest the bow season. The weather here is pretty unpredictable. It may be extremely cold then or in the 70's. I plan on coming out around the fall hunt. When do you suppose is the best time??
Mid-August to the 1st of September probably. The berries should be about right then. How much notice do you need before coming out? Do you have to put in for your vacation ahead of time or what? The reason I'm asking is because I could do some scouting and try and find you a decent bear at the end of July. If I can find you one, do you think you'll be able to come out at the season opener (Aug. 1st). Once a bear finds a good feeding source he usually sticks close to that area untill preasured out or the food source is depleted. If I can locate one it should only take us one weekend to get you on him. Shots teld to be a little longer over here as well. I usually shoot from around 200 yrds. Although last season I was able to get to within 5 yds of a few smaller bear. I'm not sure what the weather is gonna be like either. It's extremely dry for this time of year and if summer is a hot one, they may shut the woods down on us. They've been closing land because of dry conditions the past several years. That could put a crimp in our hunting.
I might be able to come out on the season opener. I got that week off for something else i was going to do but it doesn't look like i will be doing that. 200 yards won't be a problem for me. I once took out a small deer at 600 yards with my 30.06. What kind of rifle do you reccomend?? I have a 30.06, a 30-30, and a 303 British, and access to some other guns. Well i guess all i can do is hope for some wet weather over there so they don't shut down the forest.
Bring the gun you're most farmiliar with. Your 30-06 sounds like a good choice.
Alright. But i am thinking of getting a new one but not sure yet.
