Badlands Ox Backpack - Frame Only?

Hello All,

 

I am looking at getting a new meet hauling backpack.  I hauled 100#s of elk 3.5 miles last year in a frameless backpack and about killed myself.  I am looking at buying the badlands ox frame only.  I've seen a few negative reviews of the bag and I'm not sure that it's worth the extra cost. However, I found that the price has gone up in the last six months!

Bowhunting outlet had the whole setup for $323 last year and now, it's up?  Anyone have any insight into why they raised the price? It seems everywhere else went up to $499 for the whole setup. Anyways, the frame is now up to $299, but I found it on amazon for $265 and I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I just wonder if I should just spend the extra and get the whole setup and I wouldn't have to buy another pack again w/ the great badlands warranty (until they come out with better technology that I like better .

 

Also, any improvements to the backpack that justifies them raising the price?

Finally, anyone fine the frame somewhere cheaper than $265?

Frieghters

For a Frieghter style frame you may also want to look at Bull Pacs, Kelty Cache Hauler, and Cabela's Alaskan Guide, IIRC the name of the Cabela's brand pack/frame. There is another pack, made up in Alaska, but the name escapes me right now.

I'm looking hard at the Bull Pac Frame with an Alice Pack. I think you found the best price on the Badlands to be found.

Bought the ox!

I went ahead and got the Badlands ox. I really like how versatile it is.  I will only use the frame on most of my hikes and it will be great for hauling out meat! With the warranty, I hope it's the last pack I will buy.

Badlands is expensive but so

Badlands is expensive but so far I've found it to be worth it. I've hauled out a ton of meat, literally, over the last several years with my 4500 internal frame pack and it's still going strong and very comfortable.

Finally, got to put the backpack to the test...performed great.  Front and rear quarter and the head and the pack handled it great!

First time I've had so much weight on my back and felt it in my butt and thighs more than anywhere else.  I'm looking forward to using it again in the deer season!
