advice for 2014 Elk/Deer hunt Colorado

Well, my 2013 season has come to an end. No elk again this season but I did manage to take a nice mulie. I am starting to plan a 2014 hunt and will be researching areas.

I have a buddy from the East Coast who wants to hunt in Colorado next season. He will have no preference points and would like the have both an elk tag and mulie tag for same season if possible.

I have 2 elk points and 0 mule deer points.

My thought was to do second season OTC elk rifle and try to draw a mulie tag for the same unit. I need advice narrowing down units with the greatest success. I am hoping to hunt something with somewhat east terrain since he will be coming from sea level. We don't mind driving 2-5 hours from Denver.

any advice on how to go about this would be appreciated.

Check the deer and elk sections. You can see how many points to draw per unit and success rates. Points for last year are up already, success rates are not.
