Kyle's Black Powder Buck
Kyle Klaren
This is my son Kyle Klaren, he has just taken this buck in Iowa's 2004 Youth Season. He shot it in Delaware Co. in Iowa and it grossed 161 and net's 157. This is his fourth buck and largest to date! He's been shooting a 700 Remington Muzzleloader and loves it!
The Snow Day Bucks
This was one of them years that nothing seemed to go right. We had done our homework and scouted hard in the preseason. I found two excellent rub-lines to hunt off. Both were way in, and that in itself made it harder.
Tonsina River Alaska Grizzly
Rick Strand
I caught this bruiser fighting with another grizzly in May of 2002. The skull came in about one and quarter inches short of going B&C. It had prime hide and, as you can see, the longest claws are nearly five inches in length.
The Payne Brook Twins
Art Elmendorf
The summer flew by and we were already into mid September. With the leaves turning their beautiful colors, and the chill in the air, it was time for some scouting. The Deer God had been very good to us over the years, still we wanted bigger bucks. Big Mike and I decided to hunt farther into the backcountry.
Maine Black Bear Hunt
Kevin Messenger
Black bear taken during the fall bear hunt in September of 2000 in Maine. The bear was taken with a muzzleloader, using patched round ball, in .54 caliber.
Dream Elk Hunt
Mike Marquette
I've been dreaming about going on a pack trip for Elk ever since I was my son Travis' young age of 14. With his interest and ability in archery coming on real strong, along with a hunger to experience western hunting, I could not pass up another year without experiencing this with him.
First Elk Bow Hunt
Dave Nolan
After rifle hunting the giant Roosevelt Elk in the Olympic Peninsula region of Washington State for years, with reasonable success, a friend of mine, a local hunting and fishing guide, suggested that if I would like to hunt with him, I would have to switch to archery.
Patience - First Deer Hunt
Peter Gustafson
I did not begin my hunting career until I was 30 years old. I became a father that year and the hunter-gatherer instinct took hold. My first gun was a 10/.22; the only thing I had ever shot besides a BB gun. When it came time for big game hunting I borrowed a 7mm Rem. Mag. from my neighbor after promising to take his 15 year-old son with me. I did my homework over the summer scouting numerous times to commit the landscape and deer sign to memory.
Payoff - First Successful Deer Hunt
Peter Gustafson
Saturday dawned clear and cold and busy with hunters hoping for success on Opening Day. In camp that evening there was a palpable murmur of discontent. Nobody had seen anything. Day two brought me back to the area where I had lost "my first buck" in 2004.
Limpopo Province Bowhunting Safari
Dr. Dirk Schmidt, Buhala Bowhunting Safaris
Bill Stuber and Lowell Boettcher from Wisconsin, booked a bowhunt with Buhala Safaris over a year ago. As the time to depart for their first African hunt ticked down, preparations became more intense, with visits to a museum depicting the animals they wanted to hunt. Books and magazines were researched, and by the time the day came to depart - They were ready and very well prepared.
