November 4th Was a Good One
November 4th of 07' was a good morning for deer hunting. My son and I decided to go to 2 of our favorite stands. I got up into my stand about a 1/2 hour before shooting light. A few minutes after I got settled into my stand I already began to hear deer moving. Although I couldn't see them they were moving pretty good.
When shooting light finally arrived I had several does and a number of smaller bucks walking through my shooting lanes. No shooters yet but I was hopeful one would come. There was a short lull in the action when suddenly I heard a deer coming in a direction they normally don't come from. It was a nice doe. A few minutes later from that same direction I heard something coming at me at a pretty good pace.
I got my bow up and began to get ready. To my surprise it was not a buck. It was a large coyote. As it walked past me I made a loud screech with my mouth and I stopped it dead in it's tracks. I decided not to shoot it and it then ran off in a different direction. Finally I was watching the one hot trail and I saw what looked to be a shooter about 80 yards away. He made his way towards me and I got ready.
Just before he got to my shooting lane he stopped. My arms were getting pretty tired by now and he suddenly turned and walked back the way he came. I slowly reached for my grunt call and let out a light grunt. He stopped again and turned around and started towards me again. Once again he stopped in that same spot. Suddenly he puffed up his chest and began walking like he was looking for a fight. One step, two steps, three steps and he was there. Broadside at 18 yards. I let the arrow fly and it took out both lungs. As he ran out of site I heard him crash what seemed to be about 60 yards away. I sent my son a text and told him I took out the tall tined 8 point. He came over and we went and found him together. It was a great morning and I got to share it with my son. Hope you all liked the story and the picture.
