First Archery Buck

I got my first archery buck this year, on my birthday!  It started with a boring conference, being a school principal I routinely have to attend meetings, conferences, seminars etc....I was able to get out after the morning session and headed straight up the mountain.  I am lucky enough to have a few private land permissions and was able to get out on one small parcel.  I parked my car and headed up to my spot.

Once I was there, I settled in and waited, as I was watching the trail 20 yards out, I noticed movement to my right, a buck was walking on a trail just 6 yards from where I was sitting.  I wasn't in a ground blind, just sitting behind a shrub.  He looked right at me, I pretended to be a bush.  It must have worked because he kept on to about 15 yards and broadside...I drew, the shrub still blocking my shot.  He took 3 steps and I fired, double lung...he took off down the hill.  I had never practiced shooting from the "indian-style" seated postion before!  I found him just 300 yards from the car.  I am addicted to archery now!

Congratulations on taking

Congratulations on taking your first archery buck. I remember when my dad took his in 1997, I was 9 years old. I could tell that this buck was one of his fondest moments. Then in 2002 I got my first buck. I went crazy and was screaming for my dad to get up here and I told him I shot a monster. Now that I look back on it, it may not have been a monster buck literally, but it definitely was a monster moment in my life. Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you continued success in your future bow hunting endeavors.

Congratulations on your first

Congratulations on your first bow buck. Very nice looking deer. I remember my first bow buck like it was yesterday. It is still one of my fondest memories while out in the field. Thanks for sharing your story. It brought me back to both mine and my son's first kills with our bows. Yes, my son and I are die-hard archery hunters and have been for about the last 8 years.

Congrats on your first archery kill!! I'm hoping this year i will harvest my first archery deer or elk. I would be happy with one like that for my first. Thanks for sharing your story and again congrats on the fine looking deer.

Great!

Congratulations on your great hunt! It certainly does go to show you that you simply never know when "it's" going to happen. Sometimes you sit all day without seeing a deer and then sometimes you happen to be at the right place, at the right time. I shot one of my biggest deer ever after only sitting for a few minutes at my spot as well. You just never know.

Great trophy and great story, thanks for sharing
