Hunting Feral Goats in Hawaii

Since some people have been interested about hunting in Hawaii, I decided to tell my story about hunting there. To be clear, the trip was actually so I could get married there, but I managed to find the time to slip away and hunt a few days. It was always a dream of mine to get married and honeymoon somewhere kind of exotic. I was always kind of hoping that it would have been Africa, but Hawaii was a close second.

Doin' the Mambo

I read somewhere that if you’re not well adjusted socially; you may have missed out on an important piece of your childhood developmental process.  Well, I'm here to tell you that though I may not be a social giant, I didn’t skip any of it.  As Frank Heger was leading me on hands and knees over some of the most rocky geography you’ve ever seen and through hideous thorn bushes loaded with every imaginable prickly object or creepy insect, I was catching up on my childhood crawling whether I needed it or not.

John deWeber

“Sea-ah’bra," whispered Martin in broken English as he pointed to his nose and sniffed the air.  “Sea-ah’bra."  We were riding in an old 70’s vintage Land Rover, bumping up a mountain road in search of Hartmann’s Mountain zebra, deep in the heart of Namibia, Africa.  Martin, a Namibian native, is the number one tracker for Frank Heger of Otjiruse Hunting.  This was day number nine of my ten day hunting safari and the clock was ticking.   Martin said he “smelled” zebra.  Who was I to argue?

Namibian Oryx Hunt
Mike Skelly

The Oryx Gazelle (aka Gemsbok) looks more like the medieval unicorn than any animal I have yet encountered.  These “desert warriors” are incredibly hardy.  They are born with horns!  And have a disposition to match. At one point during my African hunt, after John and I had each collected an Oryx, we were riding in our PH Ziggy’s truck when we approached a herd of Oryx. As the truck came to within a few hundred yards the herd ran directly away from us parallel to the dirt road.  They were so fast that we had trouble keeping up with them in the truck!

Impala Dream
Mike Skelly

I have wanted an impala ram in my den since I was a small child. Long before I actually planned to go to Africa, I dreamed of a home with tokens of travels to exotic places. What speaks of Africa like the graceful impala? Their lyre shaped horns and lithe beauty thrill anyone who sees them. So what reading room, with flickering fire, would be complete without an impala shoulder mount to stir memories of days afield in distant lands?

Red Stag... in New York?
Joe Pagano aka: jpcomputers

It was October 1st of 2009. We had the whole crew going out in the woods that fine opening day morning. I was set up in a tree close to a nearby pond. And as any great white hunter will tell, you don't get much sleep the night before an opening day for a hunting season. With that said, I was nodding off all morning but trying to stay alert. It was 7:18 AM or so when I heard something walking in the pond close to me beyond the brush and trees. I quickly jumped up and grabbed the Reflex Growler.

Argentina Water Buffalo Hunt
Bob Fiss
This is a photo of a top SCI water buffalo my 15 year old grandson harvested while hunting with me in Estos Rios province of Argentina last July. I also harvested a nice buffalo.
Pennsylvania Fallow Buck With a Bow
Jimmy Barnes
It was on a Wednesday morning and from a treestand I had several deer come within distance, but when this deer came through I was able to take a 30 yard shot and he only went about 50 yards.
Florida Axis Buck Hunt
Raymond C. Gegner Jr.
I went on an Axis Buck hunt on the Razor Ranch here in Florida. This ranch has 15,000 acres. We started out early morning. But winds kept shifting on us and we got busted by the Axis deer. Finally we saw a huge buck around 2 pm. After we stalked with in shooting range, I was ready for my shot.
Korean Pheasant Hunt
Elisse & Dan Clark
My husband and I hunted pheasant recently (March 2008) on Jeju Island, in Korea! Dan is US Army Retired, and had told me how he had hunted there when he was stationed in Korea many years ago... back when Jeju (or Cheju as it is sometimes spelled) was basically wilderness... Jeju Island is now a vacation paradise of 5-star resorts, but there is still hunting (even for foreign tourists!) at the Daeyoo Land Hunting Preserve! I was planning our very belated "Honeymoon" in Asia, and I was determined to finally get to go hunting with my husband!
