This bull was taken on November 8th, 2003, the same evening as the lunar eclipse. We had been hunting all day with no luck. Three others in our party had filled up a week or two before, and I was starting to wonder if I would ever get a chance to shoot an elk.
Finally my chance game, when this 5 point bull stuck around just long enough for me to nail him in the front shoulders at 150 yards, shooting a 270 Weatherby Mag. This is not one of my favorite shots around, but he was in such thick timber that that was all I could do. Anyway he went about 10 yards and fell over dead. This is no monster by any means, but it is the first elk that I have ever taken, and I am pretty pleased with it. For the record 4 out of 5 hunters filled their tags by bagging two 6 points and two 5 points. This hunt took place in Wyoming but that is as specific as a care to get.
