8 Point Maryland Buck
I am David Roberts of Frederick County, Maryland (also where deer was harvested). This is my main frame eight point with a kicker on the right brow tine. I took this Whitetail buck on November 27, 2007 with a 50 cal. muzzleloader.
It was about 2:00 p.m. when I had arrived at my hunting spot. It was about twenty minutes to 5:00 p.m. when I thought I was not going to see anything. A few minutes later I noticed some movement down in the bottom from my stand about 50 yards away. It was a doe standing in the bottom. I then noticed five more coming down the hill on into the bottom. A few moments later here came Mr. Freak Nasty. He ran the does around for a few seconds and presented me with shot quartering towards me. I took the 40 yard shot and thought that I had missed. The buck never acted as though he had been hit. He trotted 20 yards away and stopped and look around.
That sick feeling of missing started to set in. Much to my surprise the deer started to favor his left front shoulder. A few seconds passed and the buck dropped to the ground. After field dressing the deer the heart had been blown out from the shot. He was dead before he hit the ground. Hope I can top this in my life!
