Teddy Roosevelt hunting party near Yampa, Colorado in the late 1890's. Four mule deer hanging in the background, all appear to be 4x4's. Teddy Roosevelt is in the middle of the group. John Franklin Bird is on the front row left. Mr. Bird is the great-grandfather of Tom Klumker who was raised in the Toponas - Yampa, Colorado area. Tom has been guiding and outfitting in the southwestern New Mexico and eastern Arizona for the last 30 years. He owns San Francisco River Outfitters of Glenwood, New Mexico.

great picture

Now, how cool is that?? The father of conservation in our nation shown while out on a hunting trip. That is a great photo. It first makes me wonder what T.R. may have been carrying on his hunt out west. He was a big fan of the then new 30/30 Winchester, history tells us. He also was, of course, a big fan of the big bore 45-70. Who knows it may have been the initial outing for that 30/30!
