Yukon Bison Hunt Draw Separate
Yukon Dept of Environment

Posted on: 05/25/07 [Comments?]

The Department of Environment will be administering this year's bison hunt draw separately from the moose, caribou, sheep, deer and goat permit hunt application sales that are now available until Friday, June 22.

The Yukon government is currently reviewing options for changing the annual bison hunt. The review may result in changes to the number of permits that can be made available, as well as changes in the areas where and when bison hunting will be permitted to take place.

The department plans to advertise the bison hunt application process and details of the changes once decisions are finalized on how the hunt will be administered this year.

All other permit hunt application forms are now available at all Environment Yukon community offices where hunting licences are sold.

Ten deer permits are available again this year. Resident hunters can also apply for a permit to hunt one ram in the Kluane Wildlife Sanctuary.

Permits to hunt two sheep in the Richardson Mountains on the Yukon - Northwest Territories border are not available this year. The government is not issuing the sheep hunt permits while consultations on the management plan are being undertaken this year.

Predator Hunting on the Manitoba Prairie
As a young lad growing up in any rural area can tell you, predators are a part of life, whether you like it or not. I was introduced to a form of predator control at an early age, my father always used to run a small trap line, nothing special, just a bunch of snares and a few foot traps set out on only the most popularly used predator trails. My old man was always on the lookout for a new spot to set up traps and was usually right on the money when he returned to see if his hunch was correct. His personal best was 8 coyotes and one red fox, which he managed to collect during a 2 - day period about 20 years ago, it seems the tradition is bred into our heritage. This is the story of how my brothers and I tied my dad's personal best.
