Deer Hunting Permits Offered for the First Time
Government of Yukon

Posted on: 05/21/06 [Comments?]

Yukon hunters can now apply for one of 10 deer hunting permits and one Kluane Wildlife Sanctuary sheep hunt permit for the first time this year.

The permit application forms for these and all other permits, including Aishihik bison, are available at all Environment Yukon offices. The deadline for applications to be filed with the Department of Environment is Friday, June 16.

The regular $10 permit application fee will apply and the seal fee for deer has been set at $50.

The decision to offer the deer hunt permits was made following representation from the Yukon Fish and Game Association and a public review by the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board.

The one Kluane Wildlife Sanctuary sheep hunt permit is a provision of the Kluane First Nation land claim final agreement and will be offered to licensed resident hunters as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The hunt will have to be carried out between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31.

The deer hunt season will run from Aug. 1 to Nov. 30 and will apply to both mule and white tailed deer. Only male deer can be taken and successful hunters will have to provide biological submissions within 10 days after the end of the season.

The regulation to approve the deer hunt also removed deer from the regulation that had them listed as specially protected wildlife.

With a few exceptions listed in the regulation and on the permit application form, hunters will be able to look for the deer in virtually any part of the territory where hunting is permitted.

New York Turkey Hunt Success
This turkey I shot on the on the fourth day, of my first spring turkey season in New York. I was set up on a good a roosted tom, but little did I know that he had about 10 or 20 hens with him. So as soon as he hit the ground I did a few soft yelps and clucks but he paid no attention to me, he just followed the hens out of of gun range.
