Wyoming Moose, Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goat Drawing Held
Wyoming Game and Fish

Posted on: 05/11/07 [Comments?]

May 2 could have be the most fundamental day of the year - or possibly life - for some lucky Wyoming hunters, with the results of the moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat licenses released to the public.

Drawing results can be viewed on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Web page at http://gf.state.wy.us or regional and Cheyenne offices. Mailing of licenses and refund warrants began May 2.

A total of 755 moose licenses were issued this year with 633 going to residents and 122 to nonresidents. Residents will receive 165 bighorn sheep licenses with 55 going to nonresidents, a total of 220 bighorn sheep licenses. Coveted mountain goat licenses were divvied up among 15 residents and five nonresidents. There are no leftover moose, bighorn sheep or mountain goat licenses.

Unsuccessful nonresident moose and bighorn sheep applicants are reminded that refunds will be returned less the preference point fee of $75 for moose or $100 for bighorn sheep.

Aaron Pelto, license draw systems analyst for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds hunters of the importance of preference points to receiving these licenses. "Be sure to apply for a license or purchase a preference point one of every two years or you will lose your preference points," said Pelto.

He also reminds hunters that the new preference point only application period - either online or through the mail - is now July 1 - Sept. 30. Hunters with any questions regarding preference points can call the Wyoming Game and Fish Department at (307) 777-4600.

I am a retired Soldier of 25 years in service. After spending many hunting seasons deployed to places like Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, one of my goals upon retirement was to try and make a hunting trip out of state somewhere every year or so. So to honor my service to my country, in November 2008 near Excelsior Springs, Missouri my great friend, Matt Hartwig, invited me for a muzzleloader hunt on one of his farms. My wife approved the purchase order and issued the kitchen pass so off I go.
