With the completion of the drawings, thousands of resident and nonresident hunters can now begin planning their hunting trips. June drawings were for resident limited quota elk, deer and antelope licenses and nonresident deer and antelope licenses. The nonresident elk drawing was held in February.

License draw coordinator Aaron Pelto said an increasing number of applicants took advantage of the online drawing process, which increased accuracy of applications and allowed the drawing to be held in a timely manner--about a week before the scheduled tentative drawing date.

A total of 17,000 resident antelope, 7,500 resident deer and 18,500 resident elk licenses were issued in the drawing. Nonresidents received 24,000 deer licenses and 16,000 antelope licenses to go along with 7,250 nonresident elk licenses issued in the February drawing. Drawing odds vary greatly depending on the hunt area and species.

Licenses for those who drew and refund warrants for those unsuccessful in the drawing will be mailed out in the next few weeks. Hunters who wish to find out their success in the drawing in advance of mailings can look up their results on the Game and Fish Web site.

Leftover licenses for both residents and nonresidents, except doe/fawn deer and antelope and cow/calf elk, will be issued in a second drawing. The application period for the second drawing is July 10-21 with the drawing tentatively scheduled for Aug. 1. Leftover license lists are being sent with refunds and are available at Game and Fish offices and on the Game and Fish Web site. Leftover license applicants are reminded not to submit refund checks as payments and to secure access before applying for licenses.

Any licenses remaining after the second drawing will be sold "as processed" through any automated license selling agent.

Leftover deer and antelope doe/fawn and cow/calf elk licenses will be sold first-come, first served, at any automated license agent beginning Aug. 15.

Additional information on the drawing and license applications can be obtained by calling (307) 777-4600.

Missouri 10 Point Buck
I am a retired Soldier of 25 years in service. After spending many hunting seasons deployed to places like Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, one of my goals upon retirement was to try and make a hunting trip out of state somewhere every year or so. So to honor my service to my country, in November 2008 near Excelsior Springs, Missouri my great friend, Matt Hartwig, invited me for a muzzleloader hunt on one of his farms. My wife approved the purchase order and issued the kitchen pass so off I go.
