People interested in learning more about the ecology of gray wolves or in possibly taking a training course to help state wildlife officials track timber wolves in Wisconsin can sign up for upcoming Timber Wolf Ecology Clinics at the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center near Babcock.
The clinics, co-sponsored by the center and the Timber Wolf Information Network, are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 17-18 and Feb. 14-15. Both clinics run from 9 a.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday.
Area biologists and volunteers from the Timber Wolf Information Network have teamed up to provide instruction on aspects of wolf ecology, including status in Wisconsin and the upper Great Lakes region, population size, aspects of predation, and field study techniques. Saturday afternoon will be spent outdoors exploring wolf habitat and possibly trailing wolves in the snow.
Registration is limited to 25 people ages 12 and up on a first-come, first-served basis. Register by mailing in $75 per person by Jan. 9. This fee includes instructional fees, transportation on Saturday afternoon, Saturday supper and Sunday lunch, and dorm use. Participants may stay in the dorm on Friday evening for a donation of $15 per person. Checks should be made out to DNR-Skills Center.
