Women are demonstrating every day that they are increasingly aware of the many outdoor opportunities Vermont offers. With increasing awareness, comes increasing demand for exposure and training. The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is pleased to announce a "Ladies Only" Bow Hunter Education class that will be instructed by, you guessed it, a woman.

"We are excited that we have several, very experienced and knowledgeable, female instructors in both hunter education and aquatic programs such as Let's Go Fishing," said Information Specialist Ann Shangraw, "We're adding an average of two female instructors a year, and it's our goal to increase this average. Typically, learning experiences are enhanced for women when taught by the same gender. Everyone should feel completely comfortable in a learning environment, and that's what we're trying to provide."

Demands have increased during the last year for women's programs, ranging from ice fishing and Doe Camp to Becoming an Outdoors Woman, according to Shangraw.

The "Ladies Only" Bow Hunter Education class will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Edward Kehoe Conservation Camp in Castleton,Vermont. Registration is required and will be open July 13, 2009. Please call (802) 241-3720 or email ann.shangraw@state.vt.us.

Lower Michigan Wild Boar Hunt
On October 12th, 2008 I had the pleasure of going on a Russian Wild Boar hunt for disabled hunters in lower Michigan. I used a 50 cal. blackpowder rifle. It was a once in a lifetime hunt for me, it was wonderful. I had a great time with the whole hunt.
