Vermont's archery deer hunting season started Saturday, October 6, and hunters can expect to see plenty of deer this year according to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department.
Vermont's archery season dates are October 6 - 28 and December 1-9 this year.
Fish & Wildlife reports that deer numbers are up in much of the state due to two relatively mild winters and recent changes in deer hunting regulations.
A hunter may take up to two deer in the archery season with two archery licenses. A hunter may take one legal buck with at least one antler having two or more points one inch or longer anywhere in the state. In addition, one antlerless deer may be taken by bow and arrow during the archery season in the following WMUs: A, B, C, D1, F1, F2, G, H1, H2, J1, J2, K1, K2, M1, M2, N, O2, P, and Q. Three of these WMUs were opened this year to either-sex deer hunting during archery season: D1, H2, and M1, were only open for legal buck hunting in the past.
Hunters must have an archery deer hunting license in addition to their standard hunting license, except that nonresidents may purchase a "limited archery license" costing $60. Regular archery licenses are $17 for residents and $25 for nonresidents.
Vermont hunting and archery licenses may be purchased on Fish & Wildlife's website www.vtfishandwildlife.com if you have a previous Vermont hunting license. Licenses and information also are available from license agents statewide.
