Tennessee's Lucky Elk Hunt Winners to be Announced
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency

Posted on: 06/15/09 [Comments?]

The four winners selected to participate in Tennessee's first managed elk hunt will be announced during the June meeting of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission. The TWRC will meet June 17-18 at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Region II Ray Bell Building in Nashville.

The total number of applicants reached almost 13,000 for the elk hunt scheduled Oct. 19-23 at North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area. A computer drawing will decide the participants. In addition to the announcements of the winners, plans will also be discussed for the hunt.

The fifth participant will be the recipient of a permit that is donated to a Non-Governmental Organization which this year is the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation. The TWRF will auction its permit in July as part of a fund-raising project benefiting future elk restoration in Tennessee.

A new rule concerning the apprentice hunting license will be voted upon. The apprentice hunting license is required for all hunters age 10 years or older who have not completed the mandatory hunter education course. Currently, the rule has the license running with the license year, March through the end of the February. The new new rule will have the license expiring one year from the date of purchase. The apprentice hunting license can only be purchased once in a hunter's lifetime.

The TWRC meeting begins at 1 p.m. on June 17 and starts at 9 a.m. on June 18. The public is invited to attend.

Archery Hunt in August's Sweltering Heat
As the mercury steadily rose outside it was easily 10 degrees higher in the blind, I was tucked in awaiting the arrival of thirsty antelope. The hotter it got the more uncomfortable it became inside the blind which now was turning out to be a sweat box. I'm not really sure, but while inside that 70x70x90 sweat box a buddy of mine texted me telling me it was 92 degrees out. Not sure but I don't really think he was simply informing me of the fact more so than getting a little enjoyment out of the misery I'd intentionally placed myself in.
