Tennessee Quota Hunt App Deadline Fast Approaching
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency

Posted on: 07/20/08 [Comments?]

The deadline for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency's WMA big game quota hunts is fast approaching. Application must be made no later than midnight, July 23, 2008. Forms can be found at any TWRA license agent, TWRA regional office or online.

To apply, complete the information on the form and take it to any place where hunting and fishing licenses are sold. DO NOT MAIL THE FORM. When applying at a license agent, there is no fee for Lifetime Sportsman License holders, Annual Sportsman License holders or Seniors with a Type 167 permit. For all others, there is a $20 permit fee per drawing plus a $1 agent fee.

Hunters may also apply over the Internet. Sportsman License holders and seniors with a Type 167 permit will not be charged the Internet usage fee. All others, in addition to the $2 usage fee, will be charged a $20 permit fee per drawing plus 50 cents for each drawing entered. The $2 usage fee is collected by the company that maintains the Internet site.

Rules for applying are the same as last year for adults and youth. Youth, ages 6-16, may apply for separate youth hunts and in a party with adults for regular hunts, but these hunts must be applied for on separate applications.

Remember to read the information form carefully, fill out all requested information, double check the form, and take it to a license agent.

The priority system remains in effect. Anyone who applied last year, but was unsuccessful in the drawing has priority status. If you are on priority, be sure to apply alone or in a party that every member is on priority.

A common mistake is adding someone who does not have priority status. If this happens, the party will be included in the regular drawing.

Georgia Hog Hunt Success
My first hog hunt was truly a day I will never forget. It was Saturday January 17, 2009 and, according to The Weather Channel, the coldest it's been in our area in three years. We were camping on the Altamaha River with a group of friends. I was wearing several layers of clothing, but it was still very cold. My husband and I walked for a couple of hours in the morning and only saw one raccoon although we saw lots of sign that hogs were in the area.
