Six Americans Fined For Over Limit Hunting
Saskatchewan Environment

Posted on: 12/01/02 [Comments?]

Six people from the state of Georgia who were hunting in the Ponteix area recently plead guilty to 13 Wildlife Act charges and were fined a total of $11,660. The six agreed to voluntarily pay the fines.

Two of the 13 charges were for carrying loaded firearms in a vehicle. The remaining 11 charges involved over limit hunting. Hunting regulations state each person hunting Hungarian Partridges is allowed to have a maximum of 12 birds in their possession. The six people charged were legally allowed to have a total of 72 birds; however they had 160 birds, which is 88 more than the legal limit.

"To ensure plentiful wildlife and fisheries populations now and for future generations, the regulations and limits set by game managers must be respected," Environment's Director of Enforcement and Compliance Dave Harvey said.

In reference to the penalties levied, Harvey noted that those who choose to disrespect the province's wildlife and fisheries should realize they now face significant fines and other penalties.

Harvey encourages anyone who suspects fisheries, wildlife or environmental abuse to contact the nearest Saskatchewan Environment office or call the province's toll-free Turn In Poachers line at 1-800-667-7561.

Long Range Manitoba Coyote
Most days, a typical coyote hunt for me consists of what seems like endless treks through knee-deep snow, and countless stands spent blowing on hand calls of some sort. Coyote hunting for me has always been about trying to entice the weariest of prey to come out and "play," or for a free meal. This story is of a totally different coyote hunting technique that kind of presented itself, I had no part in calling or enticing my prey on this certain morning, although I tried desperately.
