There are still more than 4,500 chances to get an antlerless mule deer this
year. The licences, which are left over from this year's Big Game Draw, are
for antlerless mule deer, including does or young deer born in spring 2006.
Saskatchewan Environment will make the licenses available to hunters from
August 1st to December 1st, or until licences are sold out. Hunters who were
not successful in the 2006 Big Game Draw can purchase up to two licences.
Those who were successful in the 2006 Big Game Draw may purchase a second
licence.
Last year 3,300 licenses were left over from the Big Game Draw and over 2,600
of them were sold. A similar response is expected from hunters this year.
"This is a great opportunity for hunters to go out and try their luck at
getting an antlerless mule deer," Wildlife Management Unit Manager Shawn Burke
said. "By increasing our effort to harvest these animals, Saskatchewan hunters
help Saskatchewan Environment meet long-term sustainable population objectives
for these herds."
The licenses cost $19.81. A Wildlife Habitat Certificate that costs $10.90 is
also required. The antlerless mule deer licences will not be offered on-line;
however, hunters interested in these extra licences can call Saskatchewan
Environment's Resource Stewardship Branch at (306) 787-2886. Licences are only
available to Saskatchewan residents.
Licenses are available in the following Wildlife Management Zones: 2E, 2W, 3,
5 to 11, 13W, 14W, 18, 19, 20, 23 to 28, 29E, 29W, 30, 40, 44, 45E, 45W, 46,
47 and Saskatoon Wildlife Management Zone. Please note some zones have a two
deer bag limit.
More information, including the number of licences available in each hunting
zone, can be found on Saskatchewan Environment's website at
