Description: Bandon Marsh NWR is located along the picturesque southern Oregon coast near the mouth of the Coquille River, and the city of Bandon. This refuge protects the largest remaining tract of salt marsh within the Coquille River estuary. Major habitats include undisturbed saltmarsh, mudflat, and Sitka spruce and alder riparian communities. These provide resting and feeding areas for migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, neotropical migrants, raptors, and a diverse assemblage of fish and shellfish. The refuge is managed as a natural area with no habitat manipulation. Wildlife observation and study, photography, hunting, fishing, and clamming are permitted public uses. Directions: Bandon Marsh NWR is accessible from boat launches at the Port of Bandon and by vehicle off of Riverside Dr., which connects Hwy. 101 and scenic downtown Bandon. Coquille Point, a unit of Oregon Islands NWR, is located just west of downtown Bandon and is one of the most scenic headlands on the Oregon coast. This area provides a fully accessible and panel interpreted quarter-mile trail with fabulous coastal views. To get to Coquille Point, turn west off of Hwy. 101 onto 11th St. and drive to the ocean.
