Public Helps Protect Natural Resources Through Tip Line
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources

Posted on: 02/03/06 [Comments?]

The new provincial phone-tips line to report illegal natural resource activities has received more than 657 calls in just four months, Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay announced.

"It’s clear from the number of calls received that Ontarians take the protection of our province’s natural resources very seriously," said Ramsay. "These tips from ethical hunters, anglers and members of the public are boosting our enforcement efforts and helping us to provide better protection for all of our resources."

Callers to the tips line are connected to ministry enforcement staff who, in many cases, can relay information directly to officers in the field. One tip enabled conservation officers to quickly locate an illegally killed moose in time to catch the suspects and send the meat to the food bank so it wouldn’t go to waste. An additional 226 calls were received by local district offices.

"We’re asking anyone who sees or suspects violations involving fish and wildlife, forests, parks, aggregates and public lands to call the ministry toll-free tips line at 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667),"said Ramsay. "The tips line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round."

People can also report natural resource violations to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Korean Pheasant Hunt
My husband and I hunted pheasant recently (March 2008) on Jeju Island, in Korea! Dan is US Army Retired, and had told me how he had hunted there when he was stationed in Korea many years ago... back when Jeju (or Cheju as it is sometimes spelled) was basically wilderness... Jeju Island is now a vacation paradise of 5-star resorts, but there is still hunting (even for foreign tourists!) at the Daeyoo Land Hunting Preserve! I was planning our very belated "Honeymoon" in Asia, and I was determined to finally get to go hunting with my husband!
