Nova Scotia Adds Deer Tags for Zone 2A
Nova Scotia Dept. of Natural Resources

Posted on: 09/29/08 [Comments?]

Eligible Nova Scotian hunters who do not have an antlerless deer stamp can now receive one for Zone 2A.

The zone is the coastal area from East River at the head of Mahone Bay, Lunenburg Co., west to the Medway River, Queens Co.

"These measures are being taken to increase the harvest of deer in this area," said Natural Resources Minister David Morse. "We are committed to reducing the number of deer in this area and associated problems such as deer-motor vehicle collisions."

Hunters who have already been issued a 2008 antlerless deer hunting stamp for another zone, or who have already received their stamp for Zone 2A, are not eligible.

Hunters who are issued an antlerless deer hunting stamp for Zone 2A, and take and register an antlerless deer, may apply for a bonus deer hunting stamp. This will authorize the holder to take a second deer of either sex.

The bonus deer hunting stamps will be available at no cost at all hunting licence vendors in Lunenburg and Queens counties, and at all Department of Natural Resources district offices.

Participating hunters are reminded to be respectful of landowners and aware of areas where hunting or the discharge of firearms is not permitted. Landowners in the area are encouraged to inform hunters of areas where hunting is possible.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Sept. 22, hunters can call 1-900-565-DEER (3337) any day of the week, 24 hours a day, to apply. The line will remain open until midnight on Saturday, Oct. 11. A non-refundable application fee of $6.11 plus HST will be charged to the telephone bill of the phone that is being used. It is not possible to call this number from a cellphone. Applicants can also apply online at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/draws/deerdraw/ for the same fee.

A map and legal description of Zone 2A can be viewed at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/draws/deerdraw/ddZones.asp .

Oregon Coast Blacktail Deer Hunt
This is a picture of the blacktail buck I killed last year (2008) in the Alsea unit of West Oregon during the rifle season. I was hunting with my friends on a Sunday morning and this buck jumped up from some vine maple with 2 other large bucks and at least 3 does who were all bedded in an 8 year old clear cut. I managed to pick him out in the confusion of deer running every which way and got one shot into him.
