North Dakota Public Lands
Slade NWR

Description:
Slade NWR consists of terrain carved from Missouri Coteau glacial outwash and is interspersed with over 900 acres of wetlands. The primary function of the refuge has been to provide habitat for nesting and migrating waterfowl. Much of the refuge was farmed prior to acquisition as a refuge by the FWS. The soils have been reseeded to cover mixes which provide tall, dense nesting cover for waterfowl. The refuge hosts some of the most beautiful and productive marshes in the prairie pothole region. Management practices include farming, grazing, haying, burning, and planting nesting cover.
