2003 Was Safest Year Ever for Hunters 02/13/04
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Erin M. Crotty today announced that 2003 was the safest year ever recorded for the nearly 700,000 sportsmen and women who hunt in New York State. The number of hunting-related injuries reported to DEC last year was 32, compared with the previous low of 43 in 2000. [Comments?]

Southern Zone Deer Hunting Underway 11/21/03
"Deer hunting is a longstanding tradition and an important part of New York's outdoor heritage. The prospects for hunting success this year are once again excellent and Southern Zone big game hunters should look forward to an enjoyable season," Commissioner Crotty said. "During the 2002 season, hunters harvested over 308,000 deer in New York. Even with last years's harsh winter, there is an estimated population of more than one million white-tailed deer in New York. Regular Big Game Season Underway 10/20/03
Northern Zone big game hunting opportunities will be productive and offer enjoyable time afield for sportsmen and women. DEC reports that hunters can expect the deer population at numbers that are similar or slightly lower than last year. Sporting Licenses Available 08/22/03
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Erin M. Crotty announced that 2003–04 hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses and deer management permits may be purchased beginning August 18, 2003. Bill Would Expand Hunting Opportunities 08/01/03
A New York Senate Bill would expand deer and bear hunting opportunities in parts of the state. Senate Bill 2326, sponsored by Sen. Record Whitetail Harvest in 2002 04/04/03
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Erin M. Crotty today announced harvest results of the 2002 deer hunting seasons. The total take in the 2002 season was approximately 308,000 deer, and includes more than 128,000 bucks and nearly 180,000 antlerless deer. $250,000 in Grants For Open Space Conservation 03/03/03

Crotty today announced $250,000 in grants and technical assistance to 24 land trust organizations across New York State as part of the New York State Conservation Partnership Program, an effort initiated last year to enhance local open space conservation programs.
