Bosque del Apache NWR

Description:
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge was established as a refuge and a breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. The 57,191 acre refuge straddles the Rio Grande Valley in Socorro, County, New Mexico. It ranges in elevation from 4,500 to 6,272 feet, and receives approximately 7 inches of precipitation per year. Within the refuge borders lie three wilderness areas totaling approximately 30,850 acres and five research natural areas totaling 18,500 acres.

Directions:
South on Interstate 25 from Albuquerque, New Mexico, approximately 80 miles. Take exit 139 at San Antonio, New Mexico, approximately 10 miles south of Socorro, New Mexico. Go east on Highway 380 to San Antonio, then south at San Antonio 8 miles to the Visitor Center and auto tour entrance station.
