Antlerless deer draw results for New Brunswick residents are now available, Natural Resources Minister Wally Stiles announced.

"I wish to congratulate the 4,738 New Brunswick hunters who had their names selected in a random computerized draw for antlerless deer validation stickers," said Stiles. "These successful applicants will be notified by mail, and will receive their stickers by the end of September."

The quota for antlerless deer licences is based on scientific evidence gathered by the Department of Natural Resources.

Of the 12,777 New Brunswick residents who applied for antlerless deer permits, 37.1 per cent were successful. Applicants can determine if they are eligible to receive a validation sticker by visiting the Department of Natural Resources website, and checking the last two digits of their 2009 resident deer hunting licence number against the two-digit numbers listed for the wildlife management zone in which they applied.

Antlerless deer sticker holders may harvest a deer of either sex within the wildlife management zone designated on their tag, or an antlered deer in any area of the province open for the deer hunting season. Only one deer can be harvested by each licensed hunter. Those applicants not selected in the antlerless deer tag draw are only permitted to hunt antlered deer.

In wildlife management zones 1 and 2, the 2009 archery deer hunting season begins Monday, Oct. 5, and ends Sunday, Nov. 8, while the deer rifle hunt begins Monday, Oct. 26, and ends Sunday, Nov. 8.

In wildlife management zones 6 through 8 and 10 through 27, the archery deer hunting season begins Monday, Oct. 5, and ends on Saturday, Nov. 21, while the rifle deer hunt begins Monday, Oct. 26, and ends Saturday, Nov. 21.

Deer hunting is closed in zones 3, 4, 5 and 9, while hunters are allowed to harvest only deer with visible antlers in zones 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19 and 25. For further details, refer to the 2009 Hunt and Trap summary of regulations.

Idaho Bighorn Crags Ram
As a friend of mine and I climbed a high cliff face that overlooked a giant creek basin, the daunting feeling of the steep terrain came over me and I knew the likelihood of finding rams was not good. After 3 separate trips and 27 total days I had met my match in this country. As a native Idahoan I have hunted throughout most of the state for various big game species but bighorn sheep hunting in the Middle Fork of the Salmon River country is the most grueling hunt I've been on as of yet.
