Moose Licence Application Period Begins
New Brunswick Natural Resources

Posted on: 05/18/05 [Comments?]

The application process for the annual moose draw will begin May 16.

The 2005 moose hunting season is set to run Sept. 22, 23 and 24. There will be 3,295 licenses available this season.

There are three ways for New Brunswick residents to apply for moose licenses. As in past years, many hunters are expected to apply through the Internet application system at http://www.gnb.ca/0078/index-e.asp. Hunters can also apply by using a touch-tone telephone or in person at a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office or any Service New Brunswick centre.

Hunters will have until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10 to apply for the draw in person, or until 10 p.m. June 10 by Internet or telephone application line.

Hunters who want to apply for moose licences are also encouraged to pick up a daily newspaper on Monday, May 16, or consult the DNR website. These publications will contain application information and procedures that enable people to apply directly from their homes. Fact sheets are also available at all Natural Resources offices and Service New Brunswick centres.

Applicants should read the directions carefully and gather the information they need before applying. Applicants must have their valid New Brunswick Medicare number and expiry date, as well as their choice of wildlife management zone. The cost of applying for a moose licence is $9.20 (HST included), using either the Aliant interactive telephone system or Internet application system and $13.80 (HST included) at a Natural Resources or Service New Brunswick office.

Successful applicants will be drawn on an individual basis based on their entire 9-digit Medicare number.

Each year, several hunters are disqualified from the moose draw because they do not use their Medicare number in the application. The applicant's New Brunswick Medicare number is the usual valid identification number to be used on the application.

New York Turkey Hunt Success
This turkey I shot on the on the fourth day, of my first spring turkey season in New York. I was set up on a good a roosted tom, but little did I know that he had about 10 or 20 hens with him. So as soon as he hit the ground I did a few soft yelps and clucks but he paid no attention to me, he just followed the hens out of of gun range.
